One of the most important aspects of developing a positive mindset is practicing gratitude daily. We all feel grateful when something big happens in our lives, like a promotion at a job or the purchase of a new home. When your mindset shifts, you start to feel the joy and appreciate small simple things in your daily life that make you a happier person.
Understanding Gratitude
Feeling gratitude is simply having an appreciation for something in your life. You already feel gratitude without even thinking about it, such as thanking someone for opening the door for you or being grateful for a new job you had applied for.
Gratitude helps you focus on the positives, reduces stress, and brings more joy and fulfillment into your daily life.
However, many people don’t practice gratitude enough. It is often saved for the big things, your accomplishments, or when something exciting happens.
This is what a positive mindset can do for you: it can help you shift your perspective on life. Your mindset goes from lack to abundance.
How to Practice Gratitude
When you begin your journey to shifting your mindset to a more positive one, one of the main habits you must incorporate into your life is the practice of gratitude. This practice allows you to think about your life and what you appreciate the most about it, acknowledge those blessings, and be immensely grateful for them.
There are many ways to inculcate this habit into your daily life. Following are a few ways you can practice gratitude daily.
Using A Gratitude Journal
One of the best ways to practice daily gratitude is to get a journal you use specifically for this purpose. That way, it is filled with everything you are grateful for in your life, including your home, your job and finances, your friends, other important people in your life, the beautiful moments you experience, and the challenges that taught you lessons. It becomes a wonderful keepsake of everything you love about your life.
Writing A Gratitude List Down In Your Regular Journal/Daily Planner
Another option is to list down the things you are grateful for in your regular daily journal or even a daily planner if you use one. Many people prefer this as it becomes part of their daily journaling routine. Remember, you should feel gratitude as you list down the things and not do it as a daily chore. Start with 10 things you are grateful for and progressively go up to 20 per day.
Using Gratitude Printables
An alternative to writing down your gratitude list in a journal or notebook is to use printables. You will find a wide variety of them in different styles that you can print out and then fill out. Some are even presented like worksheets where you answer questions about your gratitude, which makes it a little easier.
Gratitude Board
A fun, creative way to feel gratitude is to create a gratified board, which is something similar to a vision board. Cut out pictures of things you are most grateful for and stick them on a board. Make a daily habit of looking at them and feeling immense gratitude for having those things in your life.
Mindfulness Gratitude
This is when you don’t read a gratitude list or write it down, but instead, you think about it. You envision what you are grateful for in the moment, when you are being mindful. This can be when you feel grateful for a good meal in front of you or when you feel gratitude for the sun shining during your walk.
Incorporate Gratitude In Every Aspect Of Your Life
For example, every time you use money to pay for something you want to buy or swipe your card, you can feel gratitude for having the money to buy that thing. Every time you come across your boss or your colleague, you can feel gratitude in your mind for having your job.
Journaling in gratitude helps you reflect on life’s blessings, cultivate a positive mindset, and deepen your appreciation for everyday moments.
Gratitude Games
You can have fun practicing gratitude as well. Try to look at every situation and think of the various things you can be grateful for in that moment.
Taking again the example of you walking, you can feel gratitude for having your limbs, for being in a place where you can walk safely, for having the time to be able to enjoy your walk, for your loved one in case you are walking with them, for the beautiful scenery that you see while walking – like a flower or the birds or a beautiful tree. The more you make your mind practice, the less your mind will dwell on negative thoughts.
End-Of-Day Gratitude Practice
Another fun way to practice gratitude is to do a little mental exercise at the end of each day before sleep. Try to think of the 3 best things that happened every day and feel gratitude for them. You can also practice this habit with your loved one by telling the other 3 things that they are grateful for each day. This not only lifts your mood but also helps bond with your loved one.
A positive mindset and a feeling of gratitude go hand-in-hand. Practicing gratitude may not initially come naturally to you, but it is an amazing way to make you feel more abundant in your life.
